Camping Tent Overview Selecting the Right Model

Camping Tent Overview - Selecting the Right Model
By Richard Davis

The first criterion for selecting the correct tent is how many people the tent must accommodate. Tent sizes range from 1 person solo sizes to large 3 room 10 person capacity. Most outdoor adventure sizes range from 3 to 6 person capacity.

Another thing to consider when choosing a tent is its weight, ease of assembly and ease of setup. Tents vary widely in this regard. The good news is that there are many tents that offer lightweight construction and very quick setup. This is important when you are in the field and need to get a tent up fast to protect yourself and your gear from the elements.

Ruggedness should always be a concern if you plan on doing a lot of setup and takedown of your tent. What you want to look for is heavy duty sewing on the seams and zipper pads throughout the tent. In addition, the frame rods should be able to handle lots of flexing and repeated assembly. In some cases, youll need to balance weight, ease of setup and ruggedness factors in picking the right tent for your needs.

Selecting accessories to go along with your tent is also very important. Be sure to select a tent that comes with a weather resistant tent floor. If it doesnt, you should order a tent floor that is made for your tent or one that has the correct size. Tent floors typically cost under $25 and make a big difference in terms of comfort and keeping dry.

One other accessory that you should consider getting for your tent is a vestibule or gear rack. These flexible storage areas attach to the inside corners or sides of your tent and provide a way for you to stow gear, clothing or anything else you need easy access to.
