The weary bands of commercial jet travellers become even wearier at the prospect of even bigger airports, even bigger jets, longer check-in times and longer delays. The joy of turning up at the local airfield with your little band of passengers, your destination another small airfield up to 1,200 miles away, is now spreading. Whether the purpose of the trip is business or pleasure just popping down to the yacht for a couple of days or just catching an air taxi, its the price of the VLJ which is going to bring the experience to people a little further down the food chain. Currently, the least expensive private jet checks out at around USD4m/GBP2.3m. The VLJ revolution will bring aircraft to market from USD1.3m/GBP750,000 starting in August this year.

The cheapest, the USA manufactured five-seat Eclipse will be the first to roll out with firm orders, together with deposits for 2,400 aircraft on the books. Its ahead of the competition in terms of timing and price but not in terms of facilities: theres no loo.

Next to market in December will be the Cessna Citation Mustang. Also a five seater, its faster than the Eclipse and also nearly twice the price (USD2.5m/GBP1.4m), but at least theres a loo on board.

Also due out in December is the Adam A700. With six seats but a lower speed and range than the competition, it may also struggle on price at USD2.1m/GBP1.2m.

Largest of the planned VLJs will be Embraers Phenom. Now with considerable experience in the manufacture of short-haul regional jets, the Brazilian manufacturer is designing a wider aircraft with more headroom and elbow room than the competition. Designed to carry seven passengers plus a pilot, the price tag is expected to be around USD2.75m/GBP1.6m when it becomes available in mid-2008.

Honda are also rumoured to have a plan on the drawing board as well as numerous start-up companies around the globe, some of whom will doubtless become casualties along the way. Whilst the US FAA is predicting only 100 of the new breed of VLJs flying by the end of this year, it is suggesting an annual growth of 1,000 a year by the end of the decade. The prospect of thousands of small jets networking the worlds tens of thousands of small airfields will be a dream come true for large numbers of business travellers and HNWIs bent on pleasure. It will, however, present a new challenge to air traffic control centres, which will need to factor a growing number of novel aircraft movements into their calculations.

With such a large new industry beginning to unfold, it seems certain that the Isle of Mans Aircraft Registry will be a success for those wishing to register an aircraft on this side of the Atlantic.

I no people that have had the same tent for five ten years and the tent is still going strong. How many times have you seen a bird do his job on your tent or a tree dripped sap on the tent and you thought to yourself that the next time we have a nice day I will clean that off, well that next day never comes and you forgot about it. I will be honest that same thing has happened to me, a little bit of care can go a long way. Not only does keeping your tent looking good help when it comes time to sell it and upgrade, but it will last long enough for you to sell it when you want to upgrade.

Once you clean your tent it is a good idea to waterproof it, to stop water from seep through in the areas you cleaned. Not only will this keep you dry on a rainy night it will improve the life span of your tent.

*Clean your tent: Choose a dry, bright day (wind will not hurt); this will help the tent dry quickly.

*Cleaning tent: this should include simple things such as brushing of mud and dirt that accumulates each camp. You can do this by using a soft brush or dry cloth making sure you remove any dirt mud patches, grass, twigs etc...

*What kind of cleaning products do I use? Always use a specialist tent cleaning product, other detergents or cleaning agents not made for the job may harm your tent.

*Waterproofing your tent: After you clean your tent you will remove at least part of the waterproofing on your tent, so you should use a re-proofing agent on your tent after cleaning.

After buying your tent the first thing you will want to do when you take your tent home is to waterproof all the seams with a seam sealer recommended by the manufacturer. I no that the tent you bought says it is water proof, they all do but if you don't seal the seams even a 1000$ four season tent will leak when it rains.A wise person once told me not to touch the inside of your tent. The oils on your hands are slightly corrosive by nature and can effect the waterproofing of your tent. Don't pack your tent wet, If you have to break camp and your tent is wet hang it up it dry the next day, just like your sleeping bag you will want to hang them to dry after each camp. If your tent does get some mildew gently wash it with warm water. For more serious cases contact the manufacturer for recommended cleaning don't use detergents or chemicals they can ruin or neutralize the water proofing.
